One of my cats loves corn muffins and chili, among other things. The other one won't recognize anything but pellets and possibly tinned tuna as food.
Do you remember the first time you read badfic and *knew* it was bad?
Long before I'd had aught to do with media fandom, long before I'd even seen any Buffy (my first media fandom), I stumbled across some truly dreadful het-male-fantasy Willow/Tara/Xander. At the time I could easily recognize that it was dreadful, that it was a het male fantasy, and that it was fanfic for some show. Except for the explicit sexuality, it was pretty much what I expected of fanfic. The next time I stumbled across a piece of fan fiction (and the first time I met "slash") I was wise enough in the ways of the internet to expect the explicit sexuality, but I was still skeeved.
I wonder, if my first exposure to vids had been YouTube, would I be as into them today as I am? On the other hand, it's not like I had preconceived notions of fan music videos to confirm, so maybe it would have had no effect.
