Stories, stories, stories

Yay! I'm so glad everyone has been writing away. It actually makes me feel inspired (although it doesn't last very long). *eg*

And because so many of you are willing to read HP, I bring you some recs. I've mentioned the pairings and the ratings - now it's up to you to read. All I can say that these are *good* stories, and if you choose to read them, you won't be disappointed.

Potter's Field by [livejournal.com profile] flambeau

A sad little story. Harry. Post-war.

Harry went out in the early afternoon, out through the back door and down to the end of the garden. He'd planted roses, but they were dying. No one had talked about roses in Herbology. A few more petals fell as he Disapparated.

He'd chosen Godric's Hollow because that was where most of them had died. Harry could point out many of the places: Neville here in the road, Charlie with his back against that crooked gatepost, Remus Lupin underneath the oak tree--it was half blasted as from a lighting strike, now, though the other half bore fresh, green leaves. McGonagall had fallen by the ruined wall; most of her, anyway.

Gah. Just gah. Small, but so very fabulous. This is one of those stories that made me a hopeless Black family fan.

The portrait of Mrs. Black screams.

Pairing: Lupin/Snape
Rating: NC-17

Slash. Smut. PWP. Not my type of story, right? But oh, what a gorgeous, gorgeous Lupin POV, and a style that left be absolutely breathleass! If there was more smut like this, I might actually read it.

As the light strikes the open book, the moon whispers unspeakable things, bright sickly truths, and changes the pages into skin that he strokes with the tip of his finger.

Pairing: Remus/Hermione
Rating: R

Have I ever mentioned that I've developed a slight Remus/Hermione kink? I have (and anyone who finds a Remus/Hermione story is requested to send the link to me *g*). I'd recommend [livejournal.com profile] musesfool in general – she writes excellent Sirius/Remus and MWPP stories – but I'm partial to this fic because of the pairing, and the way she makes it work.

This is pain she can handle, pain he can transmute into pleasure, a human philosopher's stone.

The benefits of browsing friendsfriendsfriends is that every now and then you come across little jewels like this one. It's a voice we rarely hear – Molly Weasley. I was stunned (in a good way) by this portrayal of Molly. Sometimes we forget that she too is a member of the Order, and a war of her own to fight.

She’s cold. It’s London, miles from home and dripping down rain through this sticky bit of a night. Her back hurts, her breasts are aching, and her feet are unpleasantly damp. In some other life, one in which both she and Arthur can close their eyes and ears, they would have emigrated. Even if America were out of the question, there are other places. Australia, or maybe India. Countries without civil wars, where the locks on one’s doors need only simple wards to reinforce them.

Haunted by [livejournal.com profile] thetreacletart

Again. Gah. I'll not say more – just go read.

The portraits on the walls talk eagerly to the passing children as house-elves scurry about, unnoticed, at their feet. A centaur teaches about the stars that line the blue-black sky and the stories generations have chronicled for millennia. A cat slowly wakes from a nap on a sunny windowsill and begins to prepare for a class she must teach that afternoon. A phoenix sings a soft melody to a battered wizard's hat. There is life in the corridors of the great castle. But the halls of Hogwarts are home to many creatures, some made of nothing more than mist and memory.

Pairing: Harry/Remus, pre-slash

That's right. Harry/Remus. The pairing was enough to squick me to death (why yes, I still do have some squicks), but this story is just so perfect. It's short – if you're willing to read this pairing, give it a try. You'll not be disappointed.

Oubliette by Kate Bolin

This is so creepy. And so fabulous. And second person POV!

It's late at night and everyone is asleep in their little beds, all the Gryffindors, all the Slytherins, all the Ravenclaws, and all the Hufflepuffs. All the professors and all the house elves and all the rats and snakes and spiders in the corners and all the monsters in the forest. Everyone sleeps peacefully in the long winter night, when the moon is almost full and shines over the freshly fallen snow.

There. You know you *want* to read this. *tempts*

Stigmata by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool

Scars. Marks. Go read.

And oh, GIP! *eg*
