Sometimes, life just sucks

No, nothing happened to me. A friend of mine lost her father yesterday. He was a fit, active man, and it was very sudden - he'd left home that morning absolutely fine; she didn't get to meet him in the evening. I went to visit her today with a few other girls.

"I can't look at my mum," she said. (neither could we)

"Be strong for her," I replied. Like it's that easy. But really, what else could I say to her? Cracked a few jokes, laughed a bit. It was awkward, and sad, but I think our visit helped her cope, even if it isn't much.

So, wherever you are, send over some warm thoughts, prayers, etc for this girl. She's a lovely person - it would be nice to see the smile back on her face.

It's so hard to know what to say or do when someone you care about has such a terrible loss. I always feel I make such a mess of it, but I've come to accept that physical presence and perhaps a hug makes up for whatever verbal inanities I commit. I know that I have felt that way when tragedy was mine to cope with.

Sending my prayers for your friend and her family...
