No, I do get the OP's point, and I do think there is a fair amount of merit in asking why Korra - and indeed, Korra's teachers - have failed to show any interest in understanding chi blocking so far. I simply disagree with the assertion that Korra is acting like a 'cocky Western [action] hero [with no respect for the martial arts or martial artists]' in the first place. Even keeping in mind that Korra and her show does not exist outside of the American culture industry (and is, therefore, a product of Western imagination), I don't think Korra's cockiness - her naivety and her confidence - translates into the action hero stereotype the way the OP claims it does, and I wished to rather point to the parallels with a 'non-Western' figure that seemed to not have come up in the discussion.
