No one does it better than the Birds of Prey

So I watched the first episode of Arrow with a friend - and this might have something to do with the fact that we were both tired and somewhat under the influence - and found it a rather charming take on Green Arrow. Now, to be honest, I was naturally predisposed to find it charming, in the sense that there is no possible version of Oliver Queen who is not more charming to me than DCU's Oliver Queen, but! He is sad! He is pretty! He was shipwrecked! On an island! He has ~changed! He's on a mission for revenge! Because his daddy told him to before dying, and also because he wants to clean up his city! He's practically Hamlet (we said yesterday, while being mesmerised by Stephen Amell's physique)! And then of course there's Dinah - I'm not sure I'm going to be able to call her 'Laurel' right now - and you know my feelings about Black Canary, right? ♥

So I'm going to watch more of that.

The Good Wife never disappoints, and god, am I glad the Kalinda's Husband storyline is OVER. I loved the moment when Alicia stood up to him, being her wonderful understated self and Kalinda's White Knight. But then Kalinda stepped in herself, and that was wonderful too. Because only an idiot would threaten Kalinda with Alicia's safety.

Will being on the receiving end of some dressing down from a female judge/opponent seems to be something of a theme this season, and I'm not complaining, although I still don't know what to think of the impending (seeming!) hook up with Laura Hellinger.

I'm also sort of making my way through Once Upon A Time S1, and while I'm enjoying it, the emphasis on blood and 'real' families really annoyed me. Regina quite broke my heart when she wondered why the kids didn't want her, while simultaneously being a horrible person.

I am also still watching HIMYM, and while I am very invested in Barney/Robin (this is an understatement), can they just get on with it already? I mean, seriously. Also someone please marry Ted Mosby and put him out of his misery.

I also love that Lily's not-so-secret desire to make out with Robin is pretty much canon now.

This is hardly the only time that Once Upon a Time does this, and it does have a precipitous dip in quality right around where you are now. But it gets better! And second season is dealing with a lot of the problems of the first!

I've been hearing so many good things about the second season! I'm looking forward to it!

Yes, OUaT is my new favourite thing, largely because every time Regina looks even slightly sad I go: Okay, so you've ripped a bunch of people's still beating hearts from their chests, who hasn't? but, oh, look at your little face. So that's a worrying thing about me. But much as I love it, I do frequently want to brain the showrunners with a heavy book on, for one thing, adoption law. But if you can put up with the mid S1 slump, it does get better. The first half of S2 has been pretty fucking awesome, I think.

Reginaaaaa! I have a lot of feelings about her, and I want to give her a hug all the time even though she's a horrible person. I enjoyed the heck out of her sad faces in the Hansel and Gretel episode even with awful the biological-family-is-the-best theme. It's a Character Type now, I can't seem to help myself.

*laughs* *a lot* ...you know, you have a point there! Possibly I might enjoy the show more if I apply that lens.

As others have said, OUaT gets significantly better in the second season. If Regina didn't make you want to pet her despite being horrible the show wouldn't work, but she does and it does.

I'm still not sure if I'll manage to sit through an entire show that's basically about Ollie's Manpain, but this outlook helps!

I'm looking forward to the second season! The writing isn't exactly stellar at the moment, but Regina does make me want to pet her, very much so.

Arrow is completely ridiculous but yes, this Ollie is still more palatable than comics Ollie. And his bodyguard, Diggle, is awesome.

as for OUaT, yeah. The adoption thing is...awful. But the show does get better and it has a lot of awesome ladies with their own storylines and agendas and most of the focus is on them, with the men in guyliner and leather pants as supporting players.

Diggle looked adorable! I'm not entirely convinced that I will be able to stick with a show about Ollie's manpain for long, but it's still very tempting because DINAH! Stephen Amell being easy on the eyes helps, too.

The woman-driven storyline of OUAT is pretty much why I started to watch. I don't get how they can simultaneously be so awful about adoption in general and still portray Regina's love for her son so beautifully, though.
