Someone has stolen the marigold plants from the yard. There were eight of them – small, just started blooming. They didn't just steal the flowers – the whole plants have been uprooted.

I suspect the little old ladies. They go out for walks in unspeakable hours, and tend to be quite vicious about their right to other people's fruits and flowers. This uprooting thing is a new one, though.
