Today is October 2, Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. Which means it's a national holiday (which is a good thing), and which also means that there is a lot of tripe being spoken/written in the newspapers about 'honouring the father of the nation' and 're-evaluating Gandhi's relevance to our times'. The latter is depressing, given how it's on the same page as articles about China 'flexing its military muscle' (the implication being: why are we not flexing ours?) and our ever-increasing defense budget and the Centre and the states having a spat about paying for education and health and ordinary things like that.
Meanwhile, I point you to this post I wrote a while ago, and make a humble request: please spell his name correctly. It's Gandhi. G-A-N-D-H-I. Gandhi. It's a common surname. It's easy to pronounce and does not have a complicated spelling. The repeated misspellings make you look ignorant and makes me want to punch the computer screen.
