God, this show! I confess I don't like genuine, lifelike conflict; there's a reason I prefer genre to more realistic dramas. And this one is, for obvious reasons, cutting a little close to home.
And yet, as you say: what a ride for Alicia, for JM portraying her -- for all of them trying to shape their individual and We're All In The Same Boat (And It's Sinking) collective futures.
a bewildered Alicia in the middle, stung again and again by a world that she never seems to stop hoping for better things from - a world that always seems to surprise her by its sheer unpleasantness.
This made me giggle, because it's such a perfect encapsulation of her. It's a great credit to the writing and acting on TGW that I adore Alicia the way I do; I am not sure I would find watching her in real life particulary compelling...
