talking about writing

I refuse to do that wordcount meme thing on the ground that it is injurious to my self-esteem. :p It is fun talking about writing, though, so I'll do a modified version of the year in fic meme instead.
Favourite Story: This is hard to do, but I pick One Time Thing. Because it's House/Wilson/Cuddy, and I had great fun writing it. It was my first time writing Wilson, and it was *hard* at times, because I didn't *get* Wilson the way I get Cuddy (I think I have a better handle on him now) - I remember whining a lot to
hihoplastic about it. But I love the ship to death and it makes me so *happy* so yes, my favourite.
Most Fun Story: All In A Day's Work: Cuddy vs. zombies trying to take over her hospital.
Speak Whale To Me: House and Wilson and whales.
Hardest To Write: Touring The Facility, hands down. It's Foreman, and Foreman/Cuddy, and administrivia, and it was *hard*. If it wasn't for
hihoplastic and
leiascully and
roga, this would be yet another one of my eternal WiPs.
Close second is Red, red shoes. It refused to come out in any other way, and I was afraid it would be completely incoherent. There was a section I had to leave out, because I simply couldn't write it all, and I was unhappy about that. Also, the thought of writing Wicked fic intimidates me.
Easiest To Write: The Measure of a Man. It hijacked my brain and wrote itself.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Between Walls: this is me, embracing S3 Cuddy and baby plotline and her role in the Tritter arc. I love her.
Biggest surprise: The Measure of a Man. Chase/Cuddy. Just... WTF? Of course, now I deeply love this pairing and hope to write more of it.
This year's theme and the story that demonstrates it most: Erm. I can write comedy?
What's next for 2008: House/Wilson/Cuddy. Chase/Cuddy that is trying to be House/Chase/Cuddy. Wilson/Cuddy. More f/f. More Cuddyfic. Spike/Connor/Cordy fic that I should pay attention to now (shut up). Crazy Pushing Daisies crossover - this needs plotting. Discworld fic, hopefully - I *want* to write Angua/Adora Belle. Many things.
I'm worried about bigbang - it's possible I will have to drop out, given that I return to campus on Sunday and after that... things will be crazy and I'll disappear again.
If you've known me for a certain length of time (say, longer than a couple of years), you know exactly how 'prolific' I generally am. I've been unusually prolific (for me! for me!) in the previous year - in the sense that I wrote to *finish* and post - and I hope to keep up this trend this year as well. There is an element of growing up in this that I cherish. Finishing something you started, not because you have to but because you *want* to; letting your story *go* instead of nitpicking forever - these things require a degree of discipline and responsibility, which, I think, I've acquired in the past one and a half years. I will probably never be very prolific in the way many people are (and RL won't permit, either *is jealous*), but the place I am now, I can write something and be mostly satisfied about it and *post* it, and I'm glad about that.

Date: 2008-01-03 08:10 pm (UTC)I tried to pick my favorite. It didn't work. But All in a Day's Work is the fic I go to when I need a pick-me-up (zombies + cuddy = otp). And Touring the Facility is just AWESOME in inexplicable ways, and Between Walls kills a little bit of my soul. In a good way. A really, really freaking good way.
Thank you for posting this! It reminded me that I realy need to go through and reread your fics. And in a few places, make comments. 'Cause I didn't the first time. 'Cause I fail.
FAIL.
