I confess, I hadn't really paid much attention to these episodes on first watch because they were fillers (that were not about Our Heroes. now the Adama Episode? The One Where Adama Finally Gets It After Five Hundred Million Hints Dropped By Roslin? that one I've watched quite a few times). But I watched them back to back yesterday and OMG SO MUCH LOVE FOR THE WORLDBUILDING! Sagittarons and Arielons! And you know what really cracks me up? That BSGverse's Communist Manifesto was written by Gaius frakking Baltar. But I suddenly have a lot more respect for him, with the backstory, even though he generally makes my skin crawl. Oh, show! How do you keep doing this to me?

CHIEF TYROL, ♥

HELO ♥ (am I the only person who thinks Helo is what Lee wants to be? suddenly I can see Helo/Lee)

The character development, OMG. These characters, Seelix and Hot Dog and Racetrack, all background characters, and I just love how consistently they've been written and their backstories developed, so that the Fleet is not just Our Heroes and Random Anonymous People. (This was also something I loved about the first four episodes of the season, where people like Kat and Racetrack (and Athena and Helo) had come onto their own in the absence of Kara and Lee and Tyrol on Galactica.)

And these worldbuilding episodes are important for Our Heroes as well, because in episodes like these you see the complexity of the situation that the authority figures, Adama&Roslin&Tigh are dealing with. They're not tyrants, though they may seem that way sometimes (ref. Baltar's trial); they're ordinary people dealing with an extraordinary situation. It's also neat how they're building it up for the final episodes – Tigh believes in friendship and loyalty, as does Adama; Adama, for all his love for democracy is ultimately a General, and he doesn't always *get* civilians and politics and he does.not tolerate what he sees as disloyalty (he takes these things personally, too; as does Tigh – in a way Roslin does not); Roslin, for all her love for democracy and democratic values does not believe Baltar deserves a fair trial, because she's already *convinced* that the only way a fair trial can end is with Baltar being found guilty.

Also, Six wants to be human. SIX WANTS TO BE HUMAN. God, how much do you love the Cylons????

Sometimes I think this show is really the best thing I've ever seen. [livejournal.com profile] jaybee65, have I ever thanked you for telling me about it?

For the record, I've been meaning to talk about House 4.11 and 4.12, but somehow everything comes down to AMBER!!!! *DIES*
