Apparently Pushing Daisies has been cancelled. I was expecting this, and I haven't even watched this season (I will! at some point!), but now I'm sad.

Jan. 3rd, 2008 09:43 pm+ First, you should look at my pretty new Miranda header. Because she is made of awesome.
+ Every year while growing up I would get a cough at least once a year. Of the kind that leaves you coughing your lungs out at the oddest moments. And then your asthma acts up, not enough to make you really *ill* but just enough to make you uncomfortable.
Good to know that some things never change.
+ Pushing Daisies! WAAAH! YOU CAN'T LEAVE US LIKE THAT! I WANT MORE! My PD character love currently goes like this: Emerson > Olive > The Aunts > Ned&Chuck. And since I love Ned&Chuck very much, you should be able to imagine how much I love Emerson. And Olive. And the Aunts! ♥♥♥
jaybee65, you're going to have to give it a shot, just for Emerson. It's probably not your thing - but then there's Emerson.
+ There have been a lot of interesting reactions to the 'privilege' meme doing the rounds on LJ-land (I qualify; I'm sitting here in front of my computer talking to you in English - of course I'm privileged). I see a lot of, shall we say, White Man's Guilt, especially in the 'other' version of the meme going around, which seems to have been prepared especially to induce guilt in the recipient. Presence in LJ-fandom implies: access to a computer, personal or public; access to the source text - book or media; some knowledge of the English language, even if you hang out in your non-English corner of the fandom. *Most* - please note I say most, not all - of these people *aren't* going to be from backgrounds where there is little possibility of not going to school and not having enough to eat. Guilt isn't necessarily a bad thing, of course, unless also accompanied by the notion that you can actually manufacture things like, say, democracy…

Dec. 27th, 2007 08:23 pmBenazir Bhutto assassinated. Lately she was being portrayed as Pakistan's new Messiah, which was something I personally did not buy, because she had her faults. But she was smart and brave and articulate, and I did admire her. This does not bode well. *sigh*

Back to your regular fannish things: I watched Pushing Daisies 1.4 today, and how is this show so perfect? SO PERFECT. IN EVERY WAY. I've also come to realise that while I love Ned and Chuck, it's Emerson and Olive and the Aunts that make the show for me. Olive and Aunt Vivian! Make a little birdhouse in your soul! Emerson and Aunt Lily need to meet each other, because they would understand each other perfectly.
I also finished reading Making Money, and it's brilliant. Which is what you'd expect from Pratchett, of course. It has the same Going Postal this-is-going-to-be-a-jolly-good-romp feel. Awesome Vetinari action, awesome Adora Belle (yet another candidate in my people to slash Angua with list), Moist is fun as always. I loved the cameos by the Wizards and the Watch - it had a very cross-overish feel to it (though of course they're all Pterry's characters, so he can do what he wants, and the book is set in Ankh-Morpork after all). All you needed was Susan Sto Helit and the Witches. *g* ( further spoilers under cut )

Dec. 21st, 2007 02:58 pm+ Pushing Daisies 1.2. Okay, I love this show. I want to marry it and have its half-human, half-fictional babies. OLIVE SINGS! It's like the writers realised that they have Glinda on their cast, so they decided they might as well use her talent and make her sing! (hi thar David Shore. at least three of your cast members can sing, and I've heard rumours about LE as well. wait, you're not on *that* kind of crack, are you? still. would be fun if you were.) And Vogler! ♥
ETA: Pushing Daisies reminds me of Wonderfalls because it's by the Wonderfalls people. I R Stupid. *heddesks*
I miss Wonderfalls. There is no one like Jaye Tyler.
+ BSG 1.09. Ellen WTF? Baltar still needs to die, hilarious though he might be on occasion. It's official: I heart Adama/Roslin. And, well, Adama/Tigh would be interesting. And maybe Lee/Roslin too.

Dec. 20th, 2007 08:18 pm+ I've been watching BSG S1. I'm upto 1.7 now. Starbuck is awesome and I heart her. Not seeing the Kara/Lee really, but I will withold comment for now (but there is something extremely... incestous about the Kara/Lee dynamics I've seen so far, and not just because of Lee's brother). I heart Papa Adama, and am considering shipping him with Roslin. Baltar is a slimeball and needs to die. The Cylons continue to rock. The religion thing in particular is very intriguing.
+ Pushing Daisies! I have only seen one episode so far, but. So cute!!! Aron and Vogler and Glinda! When did Aron become so pretty? (and um, he has very nice arms) The show's quirky humour reminds me of Wonderfalls in a way, only darker. The horrible opening scene notwithstanding, I like it.
+ I may be a little bit obsessed with The Devil Wears Prada. Or more than a little obsessed. The sister and I rewatched it the other day, and how awesome is Miranda Priestley? I love that she's an evil bitch. I love how she sort of takes Andy under her wing, in her way, once she sees potential in her. I love the way she says "That's all" (when she's dismissing someone. or when Andy has PWNED her with the HP 7).I love how she spends much time in the movie checking Andy out.
And if Miranda is awesome, so is Miranda/Andy. How can you *not* ship Miranda/Andy? The *movie* ships Miranda/Andy. I quote Nate: "The person whose calls you always take? That's the relationship you're in. I hope you two are very happy together." ♥♥♥
I have been nagging
jaybee65 about this for a while now, but now I feel the need to extend that to my flist – the girlslashers in particular (you know who you are). Watch the movie, people. Watch it, and write me Miranda/Andy. The fandom is an awesome little place, and I honestly think it has the potential to become another Wicked: almost overwhelmingly OTP (a f/f OTP! DWP is even *more* OTP than Wicked, because the musical fandom is divided between Glinda/Elphaba and Fiyero/Elphaba, but DWP is almost all Miranda/Andy all the time, with a dash of Emily. because everybody loves Emily); quietly and steadily producing good fic.

metafandom. Allusion!= plagiarism. Allusion is a technique. It requires thought and effort. Plagiarism on the other hand is lazyness and stupidity.
