I'm on Cloud Number Nine...

*floats down from Cloud 9 to greet you all*
Hello, my pretties. I hope you all are having a nice time? *beams*
I have been, as you might have noticed, hardly present these days – not posting anything anywhere, barely replying to my mails, and only cruising by LJ occasionally to defend Hermione's brains (of which she has plenty). RL has been slightly hectic, and will be so for God knows how long. It's mostly been fun, except for those few bits where I (along with a couple of other girls) screwed up and managed to hurt one of my very best girlfriends (She says she's forgiven me, I think she has too, but that doesn't make everything alright, does it? Idiot!)
I have a lot to say actually, because I've been thinking about our earlier discussion about tragedy, and Michael, and trying to figure out what exactly it is about his story that makes me love him so much. I'll try to post when I'm feeling more coherent (and have more time). Meanwhile, I'll just post the links to some of the stories I wanted to rec you.
First, guess what? An Angel fic. That's right. I set out looking for Wes/Lilah and Wes/Fred, but what I found was this:
I wasn't exactly looking for Wes/Faith. But then I saw this one recced somewhere, and I thought, why not? I love Wesley, I adore Faith, so I might as well see how the author makes this very… difficult pairing work. And ohmygod does she make it work! The writing is spare, vivid, and breathtakingly beautiful. The Wesley characterisation is beautiful, but Faith ohmygod! I loved, loved this Faith, all grown-up and thoughtful and broken. *sigh* And the ending killed me.
She can't believe they're the last ones left.
It's some kind of irony, after all this time. Her and him, he and she, Faith and Wesley sitting in a tree. It's a bad fucking joke. Twelve years in prison for murder and by the time she came out everyone else was goddamned dead; people who might've understood; people it would've been reasonable to go to pleading sanctuary. People she hadn't had stripped to the bone, at her mercy, under her thumb and her fist for five hours on an evening twelve years gone that'd kept her company all the cold lonely nights inside.
So here it is: Return, by Roseveare. Post-S3, AU
If I ever read a fic in this pairing again, it will have to match up to the sheer force of this one.
No. This is not a new fandom. I don't know nearly enough canon to join, and I don't want to, either. I just love the characters.

Sirius/Remus, James/Lily
A lovely, lovely James POV post-Prank story. James POVs are hard to find, esp. good ones, but I adore this James – growing up and learning that things can't be the same they used to be, and learning to accept all the changes gracefully. It's even more difficult to find good Lily/James, what will all the teenie fluff in the fandom – but the ending to this one left me with a smile on my face. I also liked the way it takes into account James' awareness of what is to come – that is something we hardly see in fics.

Draco/Hermione
That's right – it's Draco/Hermione. I'm not much of a Draco fan. Draco/Hermione makes me go WTF. And still I find myself increasingly drawn to this pairing. I don't know what to say.
Draco and Hermione glared at each other.
This was easy to do. Professor Vector insisted on the desks being arranged in a circle and since Draco and Hermione insisted on sitting as far apart as possible they always ended up directly opposite each other; consequently, when they weren't busy trying to out-answer each other, much of the lesson was spent glaring. Occasionally, they even listened to the Professor, who was currently saying:
"...spell matrices exhibit super symmetry, containing themselves; which tells us what, Miss Li?"

Draco/Luna
You think I'm going mad, aren't you? But oh, what a fabulously bittersweet Draco POV! I think I could like this Draco.
I would be utterly alone in the world--abandoned!--were it not for you, my sweet boy... Draco read the words dutifully; even though they were the same sorts of words his mother had written nearly every day since the first day of school. Her writing was thin and weak on the page, yet each word was perfectly formed from a single unbroken line of ink.

Remus/Bellatrix
Oh gah! Just read it. Here's a quote which should draw you in:
He used to think immortality was a thing of recklessness, the spite of youth in face of death - the hard twist of laughter on proud faces as flight and fall draw neither eye-blink nor fright. He used to think there were eternities in his friends, in the broad sweep of their arrogance, their naivety. But time has told otherwise. Time always does, of the young, and the rash, and those aching with life – swelling with it.

Lily/James
Lily is pregnant.
Just when you thought there weren't any good Lily/James fics left in the fandom, you come across something like this. So, so amazing – Lily just kills me.
It’s morning, and the toilet won’t flush. Outside November lingers a dirty, forgotten child, late and dribbling cold - wet where there should be snow, and white. The patches of mud play false, shifting time capsules to life, and even the trees seem to twist from the air. There’s a sickness on it, a sickness near it, and Lily is sick, so sick, and the toilet won’t flush so she can smell it, the acrid taint, a confession not to be denied and - oh James, James, I hate you, she thinks, desperately, and not today, please, not like this she thinks, too. Outside their footprints haven’t quite faded – supper last night, you know, and dear, dear Lily, we’re going to see your sister next week, won’t you join us? Waving from the driveway in that automobile James so admires, and Lily on the porch with her hand to the banister, just smiling as she sees them off. Crescents of fingernail in the white paint this morning, after the owl flew in with unwanted word.

Have I mentioned that I love this pairing? I'm sure I have, but I'll tell you again anyway. I adore this pairing. Remus/Hermione 4EVA!!!1!11
*ahem*
Sorry. There's something about this story. I don't like reading about sex, I don't like reading about relationships, and yet here I am gushing endlessly about this simply amazing story. It's just so… passionate, man.
She knows it can't go anywhere because she spends the whole time pretending that he's nearly six inches taller, and that they don't fit together perfectly. He begs for her hands and her mouth, not to be inside her or to kiss her or to let him touch. She knows why, of course. She'd have to be an idiot not to figure that one out, and Hermione Granger is anything but an idiot.
And the Youth Shall Lead Them by
penknife
Poor Remus. *sniff*
The house feels full of ghosts. Remus knows it's not; the protective spells should keep out anything without a body. But pausing on the landing of the stairs, he can almost see Tonks, sitting on the stairs with her hands shoved in the pockets of her coat. In the kitchen, he expects that any minute Molly will walk in and shake her head at the plates stacked on the table and the rubbish piling up by the door they've nailed shut. He'd swear sometimes it's Mad-Eye's off-balance steps he hears pacing the halls.

Remus/James
Again, another fabulous James POV. I think I like James Potter after all. I loved the way the author built up the story here, the way it just happens and it feels so right.
James supposes the worst part was when Sirius punched him back.
The corridor is long, dark and hollow, empty like the thud you hear when the world drops out from under you, James thinks, like the way it feels when he punches you back, because he doesn't know.
What Molly knew by

Molly Weasley OMG! If you have read 'Spark' (I did rec it last time), and still aren't a Molly fan, then maybe you should read this. Molly, Molly, Molly – how I love her. This is a part of bigger WIP Pretty Good Year, which is also quite fabulous. It says it's going to be Snape/Luna (and I've decided that I find the pairing quite intriguing, probably as intriguing as Snape/Hermione or Remus/Hermione). You might want to read the other bits too, but this one is fine as it is. *makes note to send author feedback*
