The good thing about having a wedding in the family is that you get to meet a lot of cool people you don't generally meet otherwise, and some new cool people you're glad you got to know, and have a lot of fun (and food). The bad thing about having a wedding in the family is that everyone, including the said cool people, start with the invariable "You're all grown up!", "Just like your mum", and "When you get married..." routine. *sigh*
In case I haven't mentioned before, a cousin – a girl I've known all my life and love dearly - got married on Sunday, and there was much celebrating. Cousin's Husband is a great guy; the little bit of my heart (a really tiny and almost invisible one) that was still slightly cynical about him was completely won over when he took us out to dinner last night and regaled us with fabulous stories and alchohol. *g*

The
ship_manifesto M/N essay. Good (nails all the points about the M/N dynamic), but I'd have preferred a little more... passion, I guess (read the Buffy/Faith, or Wes/Lilah essay to get what I mean). I have thrown in fic recs, since the author seems to think there are no good fics out there in the fandom (heh. What can I say?).
Could someone please dig out the link for the old SB3 and rec Leigh's Jericho? Throw in *your* recs as well, will you? Do this for your fandom. *vbeg*
Also, will
msgenevieve and
nell65 *do* something about their AU WiPs so that people can actually, like, link to them?

And.
idol_reflection. Go and sign, my pretties.

Thanks for the reminder
Date: 2004-10-12 06:54 pm (UTC)I was also interested to see the LFN fandom described as "feral". Since I don't really read anywhere else I can't make any comparisons, but her explanation of the characterization seems to fit. It sounded a bit condescending to me, but that could just be my ignorance.

Date: 2004-10-13 11:55 am (UTC)As for the term 'feral' - yes, it did annoy me a bit. It came across to me as a patronising slam from someone who has no idea what the fandom is like NOW.

Date: 2004-10-13 07:05 pm (UTC)Looks quite interesting, and I'm looking forward to reading a lot of the HP ones. I'm surprised they don't have more representation in some of the big fandoms, like the various Star Trek incarnations.
I'm sure it will...

Date: 2004-10-13 02:57 am (UTC)As for my AU WiP? Soon, soon, I think. I'm closing in on the final revisions/additions. I've been writing a lot on it recently, actually.

Date: 2004-10-13 03:27 am (UTC)As for feral - to me it raised the image of a small group of us living in caves on the distant edges of net-civilization, wearing rags while hunched over our tiny smoking fire, gnawing on the bones of badfic and cackling with glee over phrases like "pulsating penis" or "velvet vagina" or "weeping walls."
Which - I suppose - might not be wholly inaccurate. ;)

Date: 2004-10-13 11:57 am (UTC)Oh, goodie! *g* But do you think you could archive it somewhere soon? Because it's damn difficult to rec a fic that's spread all over the storyboards to a newbie.
