Is intentional homoerotic subtext in a text inherently escapist in nature? Or, at least something that lends itself to escapism, if that's the right word? You know, a sort of 'look ma, how rad and gay I'm being', without actually having to confront the problems, and paradoxically conforming to the norms it claims to be subverting? Or is it a suggestion that human sexuality is fluid and does not fit into conventional 'gay'/'het' definitions, and therefore radical and subversive? Is it both? Or is it neither, and I have been smoking too much pot?*
