Figured I should do an update...

I'm perfectly alright, in case you were wondering, and so seems to be everyone else in the family. But after that, I don't really know. I don't think anyone *I* personally know has been affected, but I don't know if I can say the same for everyone else. If you look in this map (and sorry about the hideous colours), the two states right at the bottom of the peninsula, close to Sri Lanka, and the Andaman and Nicobar islands are the places that have been struck worst. While I do live near the sea, I live waaay up north (and so, far from the epicentre) to be seriously affected. The only thing that did happen in my state were waves higher than normal, and pond water making strange waves. That, of course, doesn't make things any better. *sigh*

I'm so glad to hear you and your family are OK! The news reports are just terrible - all those dead, missing, etc. I feel so sad for everyone who is going through this. :(

Only the fact that I'd gotten a few emails from you since it all happened and I knew you weren't anywhere near the affected areas stopped me from a full-blown Swati-themed panic attack, you know. I hope you and your friends remain untouched by it.

You see, when I first started the LJ, I was a bit hesitant about talking locations. Of course, I stopped bothering as soon as I realised that I'm way too far away for the crazies to stalk me (unlike the poor Americans, lol!). I just haven't managed to update the userinfo so far. [/lazy]

People are worried about family and friends, media are curious, very generous people want to donate...two of my friends left (a little nervously) today, one for Aceh and one for Sri Lanka. Keep a place in your thoughts for Aceh...its likely we haven't heard the worst from there yet.
