And Diane has always been this there-for-her-but-not figure, trying to be a mentor but not always finding the way that Alicia needs to hear it. That was quite the (un?)veiled threat there at the end.
I love the way the two of them clash. There's the obvious mutual respect and appreciation, but they can't always see eye to eye, and I do so enjoy the tension every time a confrontation like this happens.
