Burn slowly
Jun. 16th, 2005 10:59 pmIt's the 16th of June.
There is still no rain.
I suppose I could console myself by telling myself that I don't live in the hottest parts of the country, that there are places where it's averaging a lovely 45-46 degrees – 50, even (and that's centigrade – do the maths), but right now I'm feeling rather uncharitable and prone to bitching.
I've also been researching tried and tested methods of causing rainfall. So far, the options are: marrying off a pair of frogs (except that I'd have to find a pair of frogs, and a priest who'd agree to conduct the wedding. and do frogs have a religion, because then I'd have to pick one accordingly…); conducting elaborate sacrificial rituals (but all of them seem to involve hours in front of fire);naked rain dances; singing an ancient raaga (but you'd have to get everything perfect, and sing it from the heart), or an old farmers' song (hey, I know this one. and farmers' songs don't need to be sang well, right? but, knowing my singing skillz, we'd probably get acid rain so maybe that's not a very good idea…).
Hmm.

HBP covers OMG!11!1 Am reading all the reactions from everyone, and OMG why can't we have the blurb and why isn't it the 16th of July already?
The birdbowl looks a lot like Galadriel's birdbowl (or, whatever it is that it was called. um,
delle? what was it called?) in <>FotR, the one where Frodo saw the Eye. I'm definitely leaning for the Pensieve idea here – maybe it was Godric Gryffindor's Pensieve?
I also like
fernwithy's idea about the Hogwarts graveyard. The boat (and there seems to be someone on it!!1!) and the river definitely reminds me of River Styx (OMG Sirius!!!1! And have I mentioned how much I love Sirius Black? I'm going to have to make a post someday…) – it'd be interesting to see how JKR incorporates the myth here. Assuming, of course, that it *is* River Styx.
Am I the only one who was reminded of Faith's S4 arc in Buffy by the arm-wrestling? Faith had this mystical thingy, and when she wore it and clasped Buffy's hand with hers (in the exact same arm-wrestling pose), there was some mystical stuff and they swapped bodies. Not that I'm suggesting a body swap (but if it is, can it be Harry and Snape?), but a mystical bond of sorts that happens with the arm-wrestling. Pettigrew, perhaps? He and Harry had a bond, didn't they? I wouldn't mind it being Sirius, either.*g*

Still watching Buffy. It's funny to imagine how fans must've reacted to Cordelia when the show first aired. I saw Angel first, and I *love* Cordelia there, St. Cordy and all (it does somehow fit that Cordy got to be a goddess. and that's the only nice thing I have to say about the whole mess), so it's easy to see traces of grown-up!Cordy in this one. And, um, I'm somewhat getting the Buffy/Angel. *hides from

nell65, have you managed to read any of the S/R yet?
jaybee65, they're going to air Desperate Housewives. Do you think I should watch? (assuming the timing's alright) I confess, the premise isn't what I'm usually attracted to. *g*
