DUMBLEDORE! I knew this would happen, I was prepared for him to die ever since OotP, but I’m having trouble believing it all the same. When he told Draco off for saying “Mudblood”? That’s when I had tears in my eyes. That’s so Dumbledore, isn’t it? Here’s this very confused boy threatening to kill him, and he’s telling him off for saying “Mudblood”.*sob*
The WW is hard to imagine without Dumbledore. And yet, that’s why he needed to die, didn’t he? Sirius needed to die so that Harry could grow up. Dumbledore needed to die so that the WW could grow up.
And Snape. I’m in awe. JKR has kept the ambiguity alive, of course, but I do believe he was under Dumbledore’s orders. This is his ultimate sacrifice, in a way – he did what no one else could’ve done. That’s why Dumbledore pleaded with him. That’s why he snarked at Harry because he didn’t have the ‘strength’ or ‘ability’ to use Unforgivables. Sometimes you need people like Snape to do the dirty work.
I don’t think I can express in words how much I loved Harry in this book. *is speechless* I missed the Trio – which made the few Trio moments even more precious – but that’s how it goes, doesn’t it? It’s his destiny. His journey. And he has to do it alone.
I’m indifferent to the ships, but JKR handled them well.
I actually liked Draco in this book, which is saying something. And, as my completely non-slash, non-fandom sister says, “Harry/Draco is so canon”. *g*
I liked angry!jealous!Hermione. Of course she would be jealous – she’s always been the best, she’s doing all the hard work, and here you have Harry cheating and doing better than her. *pets her girl* And the Confunding? And the birds? Brilliant. *g*
I missed Remus, but the bit where he learns about DD’s death? Kills me. *sniff*
The final Trio moment made me very happy again. Ron and Hermione may not share Harry’s destiny, and they may only go so far, but they’ll be there by Harry, always, and that makes me love them even more. (I think my Trio-shipping tendencies are showing)

A part of Ron is jumping at the idea of leaving school, even though he knows that it's not quite like the school-leaving of Fred and George. *g* It must've been a *very* tough decision for Hermione - leaving school. And then again, Harry and Ron will be going out to face god knows what danger, so maybe it wasn't a difficult decision at all.
*loves the Trio*

Snape and Draco Malfoy
Date: 2005-07-19 08:45 pm (UTC)Re: Snape and Draco Malfoy
Date: 2005-07-20 07:30 am (UTC)I don't think Draco *could've* killed him (killing curses aren't child's play), and then Snape would've had to kill DD because of the Vow. Snape might have wanted to back out (that argument that Hagrid overheard?) and die himself instead, but DD ordered him not to do it. But yes, Snape was certainly protecting Draco. I think he sees something of himself in Draco - in all the Slytherin kids - and doesn't want them to do the same mistakes as he did.
