There's this very interesting discussion over at [livejournal.com profile] garlandgraves' journal about warnings in fic. Specifically, character death warnings. She quotes a review of a Snarry classic - the reviewer is extremely annoyed because there was no death warning. The discussion is interesting by itself, but what caught my eye was this bit from the review:"But I whole-heartedly disagree with death-fics and the entire premise of sad, "people move on" endings." It's very late, and my brain isn't working, but what exactly does the OP mean by 'disagree'? That fanfiction (fiction) *shouldn't* have death in it, *shouldn't* deal with the aftermath of death and life moving on? I understand not wanting to read about death - we all want different things out of what we read. But the suggestion that fiction should not deal with death *at all*? *boggles*

Oh how did I know that the story in question would be IYAP.

Funny how they whine about it, isn't it? *shakes head*

I strolled over and added my two cents, in my usual blunt/rude style.

Well, the reviewer obviously hasn't read HBP, then :).

Maybe they voluntarily spoilt themselves? ;)

I love death fic. Love, love love it! More so if it's a surprise. So I hate deathfic warnings, it's like reading the last page of a book.

Exactly. Sometimes, death *is* the payoff.
