I finally got to see GoF! It's a good movie, very funny, *spectacular* visuals – but PoA was better. Can we have Cuaron back on team? And oh, [livejournal.com profile] msgenevieve - watch the movie. Dan will make you squee, as will David Tennant.

the bad:

Why was there no Narcissa Malfoy with Lucius and Draco at the World Cup? And why was there no Quidditch match? I wanted the Quidditch match!

Emma's acting needs to improve. No, seriously. She gets away with it because she has little to do in the movies, but it won't help her if she's to do something else other than play Hermione Granger.

Rupert is very funny, but he's *got* to lose those facial expressions. Rupert, honey? You're not Jim Carrey. Don't try to be.

The editing throughout the movie was very choppy. I understand that they had to compress the story, but that's not an excuse.

the good:

Dan's acting has improved. He's the best among the three.

OMG Viktor Krum! I know Cedric's fandom's latest favourite pretty boy, but Krum! So pretty!

The visuals were absolutely spectacular. From the Quidditch stadium to the Durmstrang ship, everything was spectacular. This is the reason I go to the movies – they bring JKR's world alive.

Miranda Richardson is the best. THE BEST! I now want to write Rita Skeeter fic.

Snape in the study sequence? Ahahaha!

OMG Voldemort! Ralph Fiennes *owned* the character. His creepyness and his mesmerising presence – it's all there.

I heart Harry/Myrtle. *g*

I also feel gypped that there was no Narcissa. Damn the man!

Agreed on the visuals: it's the whole reason I see the movies. The World Cup arena blew me away.

I'll confess that I can now see why Cedric is movie!fandom's pretty boy, but my heart beats for Krum only ;)

Finally, it's hard to hate evil when Crouch Jr. and Voldie are so bloody awesome.

Ah, I missed Narcissa.

But plot wise she wasn't needed, however where was Winky and what about Dobby? I realize it cut the budget to omit him, but isn't it kind of important he be shown at Hogwarts for later in the series and what about SPEW? More importantly, how come we didn't see Rita the beetle?

I know just what you mean about the World Cup (and indeed about several other scenes, subplots, characters and situations), but the film was already over 2 1/2 hours long -- adding even one more thing would have shoved it over the length where theaters have trouble getting in more than one show a day at a reasonable time. (It's a silly consideration, but it exists)

I thought the entrance of the two other schools was stunning, especially the contrast between the over-the-top romantic balleticism of the Beauxbaton students and the military drill precision of Durmstrang. And I loved the opening of the Yule Ball, where you think that Harry and Parvati are just fumbling their way through a standard waltz and then with the little lift you realize the whole thing, with the hesitation and the shifting arms, is all real choreography.
