Damn. Our ickle Discworld wank was on F_W and I missed it! I was so hoping it would get there and I'd get to say 'OH. DRAMA', or 'I can't be having with this!'

Oh well, I can say it here instead.

That felt good. You'd think a fan of *Discworld* would be above this melodramatic shit, but obviously I'm getting too optimistic. Vimes wouldn't approve.

Oh dear.

How can anyone call the witch books bleak? They are funny, clever, surprising and imaginative IMHO. If you want fairy stories there's no shortage of them. Pratchett is for people who want brains.

I suppose you could call Granny Weatherwax bleak. Her realisations about life and the world. I prefer to call them realistic, as is everything else in Discworld. Even the happy endings in Discworld are realistic. *g*

Heh! I didn't follow the fank thread on the comm, but from the bits I read, I'm not surprised it made it on f_w. But it inititated some interesting comments on the bloodthirsty character of "real" fairy tales, so all is well.
