Okay, I confess. I love Ronaldo. Not the pretty Portuguese one (pretty as he is), but the Brazilian one. The one with the teeth. Back in '98, I had *huge* crush on him - to the point where I also had a crush on the boy in gym class who looked *exactly like Ronaldo*, only with hair. After the finals, I wrote something in my diary along the lines of 'Oh those evil reporters, why won't they leave the poor baby alone?'

A long time has passed since then. He has grown even less pretty, and way past his prime. I no longer have a mad schoolgirl crush on him. But I still love him, and continue to defend him against all critics and SQUEE when he scores.

There. Feels good to have said that.

No, no, no, sorry. They are both repulsive!

OK, I may have personal reasons for hating them both for knocking us out of various major championships (and Cristiano plays for Manchester United which is another point against him in my book), but I also think they're both repulsive. :P

Beckham all the way!!

But Beckham just stands there looking pretty! And occasionally bends the ball, I admit. If I'm to pick one of the English, Michael Owen all the way. *g*

Hee, rumours say he's leaving. Which is your team?

Newcastle. We were everyone's second favourite team a few years ago, after various near misses in the Premier League and FA Cup (we never actually win anything, because that would be, you know, boring), but we're currently recovering from being flooded by arrogant, thuggish prettyboys.

We do of course have Owen, but I remember him when he was seventeen and looked about thirteen, so it would make me feel too pervy to perv over him :).

My boyfriend was in the middle of slagging off Beckham when that goal went in on Sunday. I felt very vindicated!

I remember the near misses - I don't follow the Premier League very closely, but I try to keep track of things. *g* Arrogant, thuggish prettyboys? And who would these pretty boys be? [/shallow]

Exactly the way I felt when Ronaldo scored against Japan. And I was slagging off Beckham too! *g*

And who would these pretty boys be?

Well, there was Lee Bowyer (NOT pretty), who was done for GBH a few years ago when he played for Leeds. We've just sold him. Then there was his partner in crime, Jonathan Woodgate, who we palmed off on Real Madrid after he'd been injured for most of his time at Newcastle (I actually feel really sorry for Woodgate - he's a fantastic player but he does seem to be permanently injured). Also Keiron Dyer, who has been linked to various shenanigans over the years but seems to have reformed, except that Bowyer dragged him into an on-pitch brawl a year or so ago. And Craig Bellamy, aka Hamster-Face (http://foxsports.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,5001,414579,00.jpg), who has always been a bad-tempered idiot, but who capped his achievements in 2004 by faking an injury because he thought he was going to be left on the bench. Oh, and then there was Laurent Robert who thought he was the best player in the world...and he was, about one kick per season.

We had a very young team, basically (the average age was something like 22 a couple of years ago), and no one to set them a good example except Grandad Shearer.

Hee. Hamster-face! It *is* difficult to have a very young team full of headstrong boys who think they're teh best. Shearer is teh awesome, though. *g*

Shearer is awesome, and I hope he does end up managing Newcastle one day, because he really deserves to win something after everything he's put into the club.

Do you support anyone in particular?

He's just so devoted to his team. Not many players are like that. I bet he'd be an awesome manager as well.

I don't really support anyone - I just love the football and support whoever is prettiest playing well at the moment. *g*
