The article on boys and young adult lit was very interesting -- thanks for pointing it out. I led a reading group last spring at my son's school (mostly 12 year olds) and it was fascinating to see what they responded to. Some YA stuff went over well, but their biggest reaction was to Frank Stockton's old short story "The Lady and the Tiger," which I asked them to read just to illustrate a point about construction. They were incensed at the ambiguity.
Hmmm. I found that first article annoying in many respects. Her problem isn't in writing *men*. It's in writing people who aren't touchy-feely. She'd have quite a difficult time writing me as a character, for example, because the types of things she describes women as being focused on just aren't a very important part of my life. And I'm hardly unusual.
