May. 5th, 2008 05:18 pmWe had a forest fire the other day. The forests here are mostly bush forests, so it makes sense that they would catch fire in this heat (it is averaging a very pleasant 42-43 degrees (C) everyday), and this happens every other year, but this is the first I witnessed in my two years here. Queen M, P and I went up to the terrace and watched things burn. It was something.
I passed by the area yesterday (and today as well), because it's in and around the shortcut route I take everyday through the forest. Things are charred and black, and it's a shocking contrast with the green of the rest of the trees. The place still smells like ash and things burning, and it's a smell I hate, because it's a smell I always associate with death and cremation grounds.

Nice quote

appreciates how difficult it was.
