Well, everyone's speaking about the US elections, but I think I'll talk about something else instead. LFN folks - I've just decided that I want to read Nikita/Quinn, post-s5. Your thoughts on the pairing, please?
In my post s4-pre S5 story I wrote them becoming wary friends, and from that I could see a Nikita/Quinn pairing develop.
After S5? I would have more trouble with writing such a story, given the way canon developed the Quinn character.
I mean honestly, I don't think Nikita is stupid enough to get involved, however casually, with a person like Quinn.
But then, while I'm happy to read hate-sex stories, I don't have much interest in writing them myself. Life is hard enough to make work when you want things to go well....exploring the dynamics when characters don't want that isn't something that appeals all the much to me.
Just adding - one of the things I liked least about the way TPTB developed the last few seasons was the utter contempt with which they treated the idea of female friendship. Or any female/female realtionships for that matter. All female/female relationships that lasted longer than ten minutes or so were turned into bitch/cat fights.
They didn't even allow the female characters the dignity of simply being opponents, instead they always treated each other not merely with dislike, but contempt. Ick.
Whoa - I guess I'm still feeling tetchy about the election results. I mean, it's nice to know that millions of Americans do actually think more or less like me - but depressing that there just weren't quite enough of us to swing the election the other way.

But that's the fun part, isn't it? I mean, there's no way Snape would touch Harry Potter with a ten-foot pole, but he does it quite often in fanfic. And very convincingly too.
Really? Because I've been reading more hobbit slash, and more Aragorn slash - and while it is often well written from a stylistic point of view - I find it utterly unconvincing. Or rather - while the author may have convinced me that the two men she's writing about were f*cking - she fails completely to convince me that the two characters in her story are the hobbits *I* know.
I also just read a book!verse Horatio Hornblower slash piece - and I know those books well - which again, well written and captured much of HH's character - I found it wholly unconvincing.
I actually find it more believiable that women would slide over the invisible boundary between touch and sex than men would. Bah - I guess I'm still feeling cranky with the whole world.
Hmmmmmmmmm. I might consider it possible, but unlikely given Nikita's reaction to Operations and Quinn's close relationship with him. Granted, it's ages since I watched season five (I only saw it the once, when it was aired--wah!).
But I do think it could be very interesting. Heck, forget a romantic relationship, just watching them interact could be interesting. Nikita might not trust Quinn, but she certainly could/would make use of her talents.

Immediately after s5, no way - they hate each other too much to even *dream* of something like that. But I know I'd like to see them interact - in any way - because it'd be simply delicious.

Yes...seasons 1-3 I have mostly have on tape, and a few episodes here and there of season 4 as well...what would I give for season 5! At least they're finally (but slowly!) releasing the DVDs.
I would love to read Nikita/Quinn, but am not sure how I would do writing it. I'd be soooo tempted to have Quinn sneak arsenic into Nikita's coffee. ;-)
If I were inclined to try it, though, I can only see it working *many* years down the line, when they're both considerably older and have had time to build a long-term working relationship with each other, and with the benefit of having learned to trust and respect each other over that time. Maybe a forty-something Nikita realizing, to her great surprise, that Quinn is the longest-term relationship still left in her life. Or something like that.

I've thought on and off about what N's long term life in the business would be like (I'm not really of the opinion that she's going to crash and burn) and long-term relationships of any nature would be a part of that.
Oh. I didn't think that far ahead - I was too busy imagining PW and Cindy Dolneac (sp?) in a clinch -- attractive, but utterly OOC at the end of S5.
But down the line - yeah. I could see that. I know that after S4, I thought the possibility of a strong working relationship quite likely, and even after S5 I wondered about what kind of relationship they had as operatives in Center prior to events at Section One....
