I figured out how to use OpenID today, because some of you are planning to move to Dreamwidth, and I do want to read and comment. I'm very cautiously excited about DW, the same way I have been about OTW. I have high hopes of it. That said, I don't actually want to shift from LJ right now. Because I've grown attached to this place, this journal and all these communities I've found and the people I've met. And unless all of you migrate to DW, I'm staying put. Maybe maintain both journals. (But in case you all do leave - TAKE ME ALONG OKAY? /lemming)

If you have already moved to DW, or are planning to, please comment with your ID so that I know where you are?

ETA: Have set up OpenID account at DW!

*pinches your cheek*

Dreamwidth is a journal platform, based on LJ's code. Some shiny people in fandom alongwith some other shiny people who are probably not in fandom began to set up after the various LJ brouhahas. It went live a few weeks ago, and is still in closed beta (opens in April 30). It promises to be very cool. This (http://zvi-likes-tv.livejournal.com/492320.html#cutid1) might be a good place to start if you want to know more about it.

OpenID (http://openid.net/) is a single digital identity across the web. Which basically means you can use your OpenID account to comment in LJ, IJ *and* DW if you so wish.

Ooh, shiny. I shall have to take a look at those... anything that provides more procrastination is always good in my book. :D

Yay! I am roga there, and I'm gonna be keeping both until everyone moves, probably. I love that there's an option of importing your LJ there, comments and all.

Hmm, yes, keeping both seems to be the best plan right now. I don't want to *completely* go away, because I'm attached to LJ - but I will be where fandom is! IJ never really worked for me, but DW is shiny!

I didn't realize you could do the OpenID thing at DW! Gonna set up my profile right now. :)

OpenID accounts can't post entries, but they can read and comment and have six icons.

I've been going back and forth about whether or not to use OpenID over there, or whether to buy one month of a paid account (and then let it lapse to free). It's only $3, and then I'd be able to post as well as just leave comments.

I'll probably dither about it until the end of the month, then decide. But even if I do get an account, I would still cross-post to LJ (I think DW even makes it possible to do all the cross-posting automatically from there?), so I wouldn't disappear.

Take pity on a tired person, and let me know if I need to shift. I don't have the time and energy to do the big research right now...

I don't think any of us are going to shift *completely* right now, probably maintain both journals. Like I said, *I'm* moving only if every journal in my reading list goes away.

I do eventually plan on getting a paid account, because I'm all for supporting DW - especially now, when it needs the support. Then, of course, I might let it lapse to free, because I'm not sure how much I'll use it yet.

I haven't moved yet, but I will probably start cross-posting soon. The fact that you can import your entire journal, including comments, is a huge plus for me - if only (as someone said to me the other day) you could import your friends, as well!

Yes, it's a great plus! You can't import your friends, alas, which means we'll have to scan *two* flists every day - but I suppose we'll get used to it.

You should be able to do something to import your friends (so that you can read their public entries on Dreamwidth) by OpenBeta.

*waves*

I have a dreamwidth account as of today, and I'll most likely move there when everything settles in. I like what they're trying to do with it, so yeah -- see you there! :)

(oh, and I managed to get artisan447 there so now my journal will match my writing name. Yay!)
