SPAIN! That has to be the ugliest final I've seen, and that includes the '06 headbutt. There were times I wished yesterday's (wonderful) Germany-Uruguay match was the final - it was prettier and more exciting, not to mention the lack of cards. I missed the replay of De Jong planting his foot on Alonso's chest, so I couldn't tell if it was intentional or not, but he was lucky to have escaped without a red card. (ETA: Scratch that, that was intentional!) Of course, Holland still got nine yellow cards, not to mention the red! I've heard people blame the referee, but I'm not sure what he was supposed to do here.

Now seems like a good time to share the Spanish version of Waving Flag featuring David Bisbal.

Also, I love Iker Casillas. He's so dreamy. *sigh*




I love that they changed into their trademark red jerseys for the ceremony. ♥

I can't believe it is over! ;.; I unfortunately only caught the last 30 min of the game, but I think I got the better deal than a friend who saw everything but that last 30 min because her power went out. I didn't realize just how many cards went out until later! And going to Brazil to see it live is an epic plan! But also epically expensive D:

I went to youtube to find some of the games I had missed, some how went from there to soccer bloopers, music video odes to players (one with that incredibly overused 'clubbed to death' song from the matrix soundtrack, but dear god such gorgeous moves), agility drills, and motivational soccer videos which also have some epic music. I never did find the games. And now for some reason I'm reading the summarized plots of various incredibly gory animes. How does this internet do this to me?

It's over. :( And now we have to wait till 2014. Going to Brazil, of course, would be expensive, but a girl can dream, right?

I wound up being invited to a World Cup viewing party with a bunch of people from Spain, so while the game itself was mostly frustrating to watch, the partying afterward was wonderful! I now need to lie down and digest all the food I've been eating for the past 11 hours, hahaha.

That must've been exciting, LOL! The game was so incredibly frustrating, what with all the kicking and diving and cards, even more so after the fabulous third place playoff.
