+ I won't get to watch Fringe till the 4th afternoon/evening, because I have to go out of town to attend a wedding. WOE IS ME. If you're wondering why my comics spam on Tumblr has increased even more in the last few days, this is why. I'm drowning my sorrow by fangirling my other favourite superheroes. Nonetheless, I have some thoughts I must note down before the episode actually airs: I'm fascinated by the idea of Altbroyles collaborating with Olivia to help her escape to ourverse. Normally Olivia is all about rescuing herself, but in those odd circumstances when she really does need help, she usually finds someone to get her back -- because that's what Olivia does, make friends who will follow her to the ends of the earth. This is where Altlivia seriously lags behind, because unlike Olivia, she isn't really a leader -- she's a soldier who obeys. Altlivia hasn't made friends in ourverse -- instead, she's earned herself a lot of enemies. (And I've completely warmed up to her, now that she's shown such great conflict and vulnerability, especially in her conversation with Peter in 3.06.)

Here, however, is another thing that I hope the show will touch upon, although I'm not counting on it -- Peter's connection with Altlivia. Peter genuinely liked Altlivia, liked that she was a happier, more carefree, emotionally healthier version of Ourlivia. Because it's very easy to love Ourlivia, she inspires admiration and blind devotion like no one else. But to actually be with someone like her? It took Nina Sharp a minute to figure out something was off with Olivia; so even if Peter was thinking with bodyparts other than his brain, one still has to wonder if he was making all those excuses to himself because this changed Olivia was kind of fun. Will this figure into Peter/Olivia post-return, whenever that happens? Will Peter acknowledge the connection, that he liked Altlivia? Will he forgive Altlivia? Will he understand why she did what she did? Will he seek to forge a connection between the two worlds through his connection with Altlivia? And Olivia, oh man. I won't lie, I'm kind of looking forward to heartbroken Olivia, because Olivia's... loneliness (for the lack of a better word), her silent manpain is something I absolutely cannot resist.

+ Gail Simone linked to two great posts on Huntress' early days in BoP, and added her own thoughts, which included this absolute gem:

To me, the fascinating thing about the three main birds is that they share a common perspective, but they don't REALIZE they all feel the same way. That is to say, each bird thinks that she is the protector of the other two. Helena feels she's watching out for Babs and Dinah, likewise, Dinah thinks she's got Helena and Babs "Under her wing," and Babs feels the same way, we've hinted at that several times. So they've each got that little bit of Big Sister feeling for the other two, and if you asked them their true feelings, they would all basically say the same thing.

Not to mention Zinda, who, while deferring to Barbara as the leader, also tends to look at them in a sort of 'aww, children' way, and pretty much 'adopted' Dinah and Helena -- I quote Dinah in BoP #1 - when Babs was moping in Gotham. This, this is why I enjoy this book so much -- it's about the team and how much they love each other, even if they're idiots about it sometimes.

Today I was also being rather spammy about Huntress and her giant woobtasticness (she's practically the Cara of the Batverse; post-Richard&Kahlan Cara, that is, whereas Lady Shiva is the Cara who never teamed up with Richard or Kahlan, but ran into Kahlan when their sensei died and developed a strange... affection for her, in her own fashion. it makes a lot of sense in my head, okay?), and [profile] favouriteyear said:

I’m a big fan of Babs/Dinah…BUT…I’m just as big a fan of the friendship between Dinah and Helena. They remind me a lot of Steph and Cass (beyond just the obvious)

Dinah is one who’s really been in Helena’s corner. I can’t remember the issue, but she and Helena hang out on Gotham’s rooftops and discuss Gargoyles, and she makes Helena laugh with her Batman impressions…and later when Bruce accepts Helena’s work with the mobs in Gotham and calls it outstanding, she’s totally rooting for him to acknowledge how awesome Helena is.

They’re one of my favourite friendships in the DCU.

To which I replied (conversations are so awkward in Tumblr, I heart LJ):

Oh, mine too. Barbara’s way of reaching out to Helena, at that point, was to send her on those missions, knowing they’ll act as a kind of therapy (and it’s really insane, how much time she spends thinking up this stuff, finding parallels and the exact matches for the situation) — and when Helena figured it out, it backfired. Dinah, meanwhile, reached out to her by just being her wonderful self — talking to her, cracking jokes and secretly telling off Batman. They all watch out for each other, but the ways they do it is very different, and characteristic of them. Dinah is the heart of the team — her way of reaching out to people she cares about it is a lot more immediate and accessible, whereas Babs plots and organises and fixes things.

tl;dr I really love them, why isn't the next one out yet.

PS:

"I need to know, Babs. It's your play. It's your call. But I want to hear, in your words, what you want us to do."

Context is for losers.
