Thunderbolts and lightning

swatkatIt is the end of semester and I have spent the past few weeks in a haze -- correcting assignments, fixing attendance records, reassuring overstrung students, and so on. I did not sign up for this.
At least it'll be over soon.

I want to talk about Legend of Korra, but so far everything that comes out is incoherent squee. Mako and Bolin, awww.musesfool was right, Mako totally has Batman's backstory! Except that Korra is Batman, so Mako can be her Robin -- only they are more Dick and Damian than Bruce and Dick, with Bolin as Steph!Batgirl in terms of personality and having a long way to go. I'm quite fascinated by these analyses of Mako and Bolin's bending styles (links courtesy musesfool). In the previous episode itself, their styles had felt distinctly different, and an analysis like this makes it very evident -- this is not how Zuko or Azula fought, and this is also why Korra is far better in actual combat than Mako or Bolin. Korra was trained in combat by the very best, whereas they are sportsmen with street technique and little training save what they've learned on their own.
I was also deeply amused that the criminal guy whose bending Amon took first was bending lightning: can you imagine Azula's reaction to that? Not only are peasants bending, they're bending lightning! I think Azula would have some very interesting things to say about Amon using his spirit bending to take away bending from criminals.
I'm also fascinated by the idea of bending-based jobs for workers in Republic City.

I also trust everyone has heard of these spoilers from the Korra game in the Nick website now? But in case you did not, Zuko is probably alive and has a daughter, who is now the Fire Lord. My first reaction? The Zutara fans will BREAK the internet. /0\
I look forward to meeting him, as well as his daughter. Also backstory for all the AtLA second gen folks please - Lin, Tenzin, Zuko's daughter, etc.
