Anyone use MySpace in these parts? I'm in need of some information. Any help will be appreciated. :)

Aha. I just needed some basic information - I did try using it, but lost my patience with the thing after a while. What I wanted to know was, who are the people who primarily use MySpace? And why do LJers in general find it annoying? And there are some famous people with MySpaces of their own, yes?

The formatting is even more cluttered than the messiest LJ space, and the emphasis on pictures rather than text bores me.

Just try to avoid the psychadelic wallpaper. Lots of dancey people have My Space pages and I follow some of them for work, but my eyes get tired.

Ah, just the kind of person I needed...

Who are these dancey people with My Spaces? Are they well-known? Why do they have My Spaces?

This is of immense importance, trust me. *g*

Well, here are some examples of organizations

Wexner center (performance and exhibit space)
http://www.myspace.com/wexnercenter

Walker Art Center (performance and exhibit space)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=55269967

BalletMet (ballet company)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=80523968

American Museum of Natural History (what it says)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=67142095

Houston Ballet (ballet company)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=77287020

Joffrey Ballet (ballet company)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=107564272

Pacific Northwest Ballet (ballet company)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=83652736

And here are some individuals

Kiyon Gaines (dancer)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=18844474

Jordan Pacitti (dancer)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=24634476

James Reed (dancer/dj)
http://www.myspace.com/jamesreed

Rhys Chatham (composer)
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=49290242

Some of these are better known than others -- most of the dancers are fairly young and are on MySpace to make friends rather than promote their dancing. The companies and other organizations are there to raise their visibility among a younger audience than they normally attract.

Hope this helps -- if you've got more specific questions just ask them.

MySpace is mostly populated by people high school-age and younger. Among the few adults using it, a disproportionate number seem to be people in the music industry. I think in part because MySpace makes it very easy to link to music samples and such.

I hate going there because the pages are too busy, and yet seem to have very little of interest.
