Whatever happened to the House forums at TWOP? I have been avoiding them for a while now, because the rampant misogyny and general negetivity makes my blood pressure rise to unsavoury levels, but today I went back for some fic recs and they were empty. EMPTY, I tell you. Was there some flamewar no one told me about?

A whole bunch of people were banned for whatever reason, people got shitty, they created a new place called House's House of Whining (http://houseofwhining.com/), which is the new TWOP, basically, except it's not much better than TWOP itself was.

Oh, wow. I remember the new mods being overbearing and kinda stupid ("this is offtopic!" "why is the Shipper thread called the Shipper thread?"), but I had no idea all this had happened. I'll go check this one out.

I tried House Of Whining for a while, but although I started out fandom on message boards, they just don't work for me any more...every time I posted I felt like I was bashing my head against a wall of opinion that didn't want to hear it. So I've stopped going to both places, pretty much completely.

Yeah. Exactly. Same. I was pretty much always ignored, particularly once more people rolled in and the cliquey-ness started. The exclusive, dogmatic, narrow-minded attitude there towards H/W as the One True Ship is the same as on house_wilson, just with more... how can I say it without being a cunt? Anyway, the attitude found in both places is part of the reason why I've jumped ships.

I try to collect H/W fen in my flist so that I can squee with *them* instead of going over to shipper communities. This has worked wonders for me so far, and I've discovered fabulous people who indulge my polyshippery instead of looking at me like skinned and ate a kitten. Several kittens. Otherwise I would have probably gone crazy with the tinhattery.

Slightly OT - I was watching 'Forever' for research purposes, and I totally saw the House/Foreman. I mean, I've always seen it, but now I see it even more! And I thought of you! Hooray for shipping many things at once!

I started out on MBs too! TWOP was just... too much for me after a while. I would watch an episode and go over to squee, only to discover that everyone had hated everything about it except that one House/Wilson scene. And that they actually hate the show and are watching it only for the Wilson scenes. And Cuddy is stupid, and Stacy is evil, and Cameron is a bitch, and let's not even *begin* to discuss Foreman. I don't even want to know what people think about Thirteen and Amber, because it will most likely cause me to pop a vein or something. Oh, and the tinhattery. *gnashes teeth*

Word. It's not just about harshing my squee, it's about the attitude you get when you dare to say that you *liked* it. It's my show and it makes me happy - what the hell is so WRONG about that? Sometimes they make me question my sanity, and then I have to go whining to someone till I'm myself again.

Yeah. I mean, there are things about the show that I sometimes don't particularly like and I'll do my little bitch about it in my episode posts if I can be bothered to write one. I'm always glad to hear other people's POVs on those things, though, and I enjoy having discussions/debates from time to time. But when people start getting dogmatic about their opinions and about their ships, that's when I start getting really cranky. I can't stand people forcing their opinions on me and being condescending towards me when I don't agree with them. There's a hell of a lot of that going on in H/W shipper circles. It's almost enough to turn me off the ship itself. If I can't enjoy House/Wilson in fandom without people telling me I'm shipping them wrong or without people telling me that the women on the show are EVIL EVIL EVIL THEY'LL GET IN THE WAY OF THE GAY, then how the hell am I supposed to enjoy the ship at all?

We're hardly expected to enjoy every little thing about every episode, and that's what episode discussions are for. But, you know, it's difficult to talk to someone (many someones) when they are DETERMINED that there has been no - and there CAN'T be - good episode in the show after the Odd Couple days. Because the Odd Couple was the pinnacle of the show's achievement, and the only logical step forward is to get them married - anything else is a regression.

No, no, for once it's not the fans' fault. TWOP introduced some stupid new mods who would ban people for talking about Wilson in the House thread, and ask things like 'Why is the Shipper thread called the Shipper thread? I'm renaming this the Relationship thread.' Fans were pissed, and they staged a walkout.

It's barely breathing over there now. While all the iron-fisted and dumb-headed moderation was going on, the Hizzy Meet Market thread still managed to be lively. But I notice it has not been updated since Dec. 29, when it used to generate pages and pages of posts every day.

I was surprised to see the fic rec thread so empty, when it used to be one of the busiest threads! I have no intention of spending too much time on the other threads in House of Whining - I seldom agree with the other posters, and arguing is like banging your head against a brick wall. But I'm glad for the new fic rec thread. The old TWOP thread used to regularly discover gems, and I hope this will be the same.
