once and future

1. BSG is coming back! Okay, so 4.0 was choppy and occasionally bizarre, too much plot (not enough good plot), too much Baltar's Sex Cult (not enough good Baltar interactions with other awesome characters, like 'The Hub'), a lot of insanity and not enough answers... BUT. My show is coming baaaack!
2. I only have very brief thoughts on the webisodes:
a. Gaeta is bi. This is news, because I thought he was gay.
b. But Baltar/Gaeta is now canon, right?
c. More Eight. A Eight plot is brewing, I'm telling you. It's gonna be BIG.
d. Saul Tigh in charge of CIC! Does that mean Bill and Tigh have made up? I WANT TO KNOW! OMG.
e. Gaeta is probably gonna die.
f. Gaeta is not the Final Cylon. Ellen Tigh? Zak Adama? Kendra Shaw?
3. And okay. Fine. So I saw the first episode of Merlin. It's... very Harry Potter meets King Arthur, with added cheesy SFX and dragon.
But seriously, flist, if you wanted me to see the show, all you had to do was tell me about Gwen and Morgana. And maybe posted a couple of Uther Pendragon picspams (ASH = ♥♥♥).
4. Rewatching House 4.11 with A. last night, the baby plotline doesn't get any more believable on rewatch. What, she just walked out of class and gave birth and came right back afterwards, and no one noticed? 'Excuse me, ma'am, but I have to go give premature birth to miracle baby Jesus now'. Yes, Christmas miracle etc., but the writers were on some special crack with that (BUT THEY GAVE CUDDY HER BABY SO THAT'S ALRIGHT. SHUT UP, FANDOM).

Date: 2009-01-14 04:37 am (UTC)The fact that the baby ends up alive is more suspicious. But I suppose it's not completely out of the realm of possibilities.

Date: 2009-01-14 04:41 am (UTC)Considering that there's a good chunk of women who don't even know they're pregnant until they're in labor
Oh, wow, seriously? But this girl knew. And maybe she hid everything very well and all, but what about afterwards? It's just stretching it A LOT for me to believe it.
The fact that the baby ends up alive is more suspicious.
Yes. MIRACLE! *facepalm*
(Still, they gave her the baby.)

Date: 2009-01-14 05:13 am (UTC)but what about afterwards? Well... if you think about it, women give birth without complications all of the time. She might have been tired, but that could have been past off as the flu or something. There might have been bleeding, but she's a 14 year old girl; bleeding isn't exactly cause for concern.
Yes. MIRACLE! *facepalm* So I was just thinking... maybe she was lying? I suppose it's possible that she fudged the date that she got pregnant to cover up the fact that she was drinking while pregnant, so perhaps the baby wasn't premature/that premature. Or maybe she was lying when she said that the baby wasn't breathing. It's one thing to leave a dead baby, another to leave one alive, and maybe she didn't want Cuddy or her parents to look at her differently for leaving a healthy, live child for death. And, again, I suppose denial is possible; she didn't want the child to be alive, so she misinterpreted a quiet baby for a dead one or something. I don't know; it would have been nice to see these issues fleshed out more.

The girl was smart as well, so it's possible she made up a good story. The same with the child - she may have been in denial, she may have been guilty *not* because she left behind a dead child but a *living* child. Or maybe the child was quiet, but not dead (this part I believe, because apparently *I* was born quiet and the doctors made me cry). It's still very convenient, though - lazy writing that takes fanwanking and fans' desire to believe in the CHRISTMAS MIRACLE! for granted.

Date: 2009-01-14 07:22 am (UTC)I don't know if I'd qualify this particular episode as a victim of lazy writing as much as I think there was just too much going on. There was the Huddy tension, Cuddy relating to the patient, Cuddy wanting a baby, the fact that the teenage boy had been the girl's secret lover, Foreman wanking about how he was turning into House, Foreteen, Thirteen and things related to the drug trial, the House/Wilson bet about kindness, the idiot patient in the clinic, and Kutner dealing with his own bullying issues. Had the Huddy stuff been put on hold or the storylines branching from Thirteen been pared down/saved for an episode where the material might have been more relevant, for instance, we might have had more time to bond/understand the patient and what exactly was going on. So I guess the issue to my mind is lazy editing, :-P
