+ ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN! I haz account! \0/
+ MERLIN 2.08, or DAYS OF OUR CAMELOT. OH SHOW. SHOW SHOW SHOW. It makes sense that the best episode in the season so far would also have plotholes like swiss cheese, BUT. Oh, show. The Pendragon family drama! It presses every one of my buttons, guh. As I was telling (well, more like screaming at the top of my voice that will soon be audible only to bats, but whatever)
roga: PENDRAGON FAMILY DRAMA! FATHER-SON CONFLICT! GHOSTLY MOTHERS! SECRET HALF SISTERS! DAYS OF OUR CAMELOT IS THE BEST SHOW EVER.
* Arthur Pendragon, you giant w00bie. I want to SQUISH him, poor baby. The one time he listens to Merlin, it ends up being a lie. I don't know how they will repair the trust issues between them once the truth comes out. People need to stop lying to him For His Own Good. As a matter of fact, people also need to stop lying to Morgana For Her Own Good, and maybe they need to hang out more.
* Speaking of which: Morgana! Had lines! And decent sleep! And a secret half-sister, oh my! If this is not a set-up for the season finale, I WILL CRY.
However, I'm not sure why she could not recognise her father's seal on the bracelet?
* MORGAUSE!!! She is exactly as awesome as I hoped she'd be, and I WANT MORE OF HER OMG.
* MERLIN AND ARTHUR TALKING ABOUT PARENTS THEY NEVER KNEW. ♥
* I have been trying to make sense of ghost!Igraine's accusations against Uther - the only way it makes sense in the context of 1.09 is that Nimueh told Uther about the death part, and Uther happily assumed that it would be him (or some random knight he would not mind sacrificing for this great cause) instead of Igraine. And when it turned out the other way, of course, he blamed Nimueh, just as Igraine, who in all probability thought it was a normal pregnancy, blames him for sacrificing her. Their relationship may have been rather fraught at that time, what with Uther's desire for a child and Igraine's disappointment at her own perceived barrenness and a feeling that perhaps her loving husband was more interested in her as a womb than as a wife.
It's still very skeevy, but it's the kind of skeevy I'd expect from Uther.
That, or it was a false (half-true?) image. Morgause was certainly rather provocative in her last words to Arthur, and while I don't believe that she has anything against Arthur as such and find her to be totally sympathetic, she already has the evil!eyeliner and mysterious red gown.
I'm also wondering now if Nimueh's 'I was your friend' is to be interpreted as a closer friendship than I originally assumed it to be. The writers do love their parallels and mirrors - perhaps a comment on Arthur/Merlin? Or perhaps Arthur/Morgana is a more apt comparison?
* ALSO, ALSO, THAT PART ABOUT ARTHUR NEVER HAVING LOST TO A WOMAN? LIES, I TELL YOU, LIES. MORGANA BEAT HIM ALL THE TIME WHEN THEY WERE CHILDREN, ONLY THIS TIME IT'S IN PUBLIC SO HE CAN'T ACTUALLY DENY IT. (Women in Morgana's family have mad skillz with the sword, yo.)
*I kind of ship Morgause/Morgana. God, it's like 2003 again.
* The next episode does not look particularly interesting, but we'll see.

Date: 2009-11-16 11:49 am (UTC)Thanks for the Merlin offer -- I'm a bit stuck for bandwidth this month (yes, there are Other Things of importance apparently. HA! I say!) but if my usual source doesn't come through next month, I may be back begging for help. ;)
