Conversation over lunch:
Swatkat:...so if they don't have the book, I'm going to ask them to reserve a copy for me.
Dad: What's the book called?
Swatkat: Son of a Witch.
Mum: (scandalised)What a name!
Swatkat: Son of a WITCH.
Mum: Oh.
But I do have the book now. And Hogfather too (Could Susan be anymore amazing? Answer: No). *g*
Also, my mother has decided that she wants to read Wicked. This should be interesting. *eg*
*
I'm almost getting used to the madwoman in the attic look. Today *two* people failed to recognise me. I wonder what this means.

Date: 2006-06-11 05:17 pm (UTC)If she's scandalized by what she thought the title of SOAW was, how do you think she'll react to the Philosophy Club? Or the Frex/Melena/Turtleheart relationship?
I can't wait to see what you think! (And by the way, I received that Pratchett book I mentioned to you -- I'll be starting it soon!)

Date: 2006-06-11 05:33 pm (UTC)We did dutifully warn her about potentially disturbing content, now what she makes of it is her problem. I'll just watch and laugh. *vbeg*
I'm kind of scared to start the book - I've been putting it off all evening. It's silly, I know, but I keep having thoughts like 'But Elphaba is dead', and 'OMG no Elphaba how will I read?'. *sigh*

Date: 2006-06-12 12:12 am (UTC)Oh, yes. The maunts *rock*.
There are also some lovely Glinda bits, and Animal-related things. I also adored seeing Elphaba from other POVS, as well as the Kiamo Ko moments.

Date: 2006-06-12 03:53 pm (UTC)What did you both think of the first Liir/Glinda reunion? With the broom in the fire? Squeee. I don't know what to think of her temper tantrum, though.
But my favorite bit was by far when Liir went back to Kiamo Ko and saw Nanny and Chistery. *sob* AND Glinda at the mauntery - because I guess you've finished the book by now? *g*

Date: 2006-06-13 01:10 am (UTC)I had mixed feelings, but I'll have to go back and reread that part to be able to put my finger on why.

Oh, God, yes! *Cries*
AND Glinda at the mauntery
That was the climax of the entire book, as far as I was concerned.
P.S
Date: 2006-06-12 04:20 am (UTC)I haven't read that one, so I couldn't say what it's like. I wish you'd started with a later book, though.
Re: P.S
Date: 2006-06-12 04:27 am (UTC)I left the book in my office by mistake on Friday, so haven't been able to read it this weekend. I'll start tomorrow evening.
